Two-Strike Approach
Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill
Players practice a simplified two-strike approach focused on contact, controlling the zone, and using the whole field.
Hitting⏱ 15 min👥 2-12 players
Setup
Set up live front toss or short batting practice behind a screen. Every at-bat starts with an 0-2 count. Have a catcher or a net behind the hitter so takes can be called as balls and strikes.
Execution
- Hitter steps in and is told the count is 0-2 before every at-bat.
- Hitter widens the stance slightly, chokes up, and shortens the load.
- Coach mixes strikes and clear balls; the hitter must take the balls and put every strike in play.
- Any foul ball keeps the at-bat alive; a swing at a clear ball ends it.
- Each hitter survives three at-bats before rotating out.
