Pitch-to-Contact Drill

Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill

Pitchers work on attacking hitters with strikes and generating controlled contact rather than relying on maximum velocity.

Pitching⏱ 15 min👥 6-14 players

Setup

Put a pitcher on the mound with a catcher, a full defense behind them, and live hitters. Protective screen on the mound if the age group calls for it. Coach keeps the count out loud.

Execution

  1. Every hitter starts with a 1-0 count so the pitcher must attack the zone.
  2. Pitcher works ahead: first-pitch strikes, then something at the bottom of the zone.
  3. Hitter swings live and the defense plays the ball out.
  4. A walk ends the pitcher's turn immediately; three balls in play ends it normally.
  5. Rotate pitchers and track strike percentage and pitches per out.
