Partner Throwing Progression

Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill

Players progress from short-distance throws to longer throws while emphasizing proper grip, direction, and follow-through.

Throwing⏱ 10 min👥 2-24 players

Setup

Pair players along a foul line, each pair facing the same direction so nobody throws across another pair. Start partners about fifteen feet apart with one ball per pair. Mark the back-up distances with cones if the field has no landmarks.

Execution

  1. Ten throws at fifteen feet: wrist flicks only, on one knee, working the release.
  2. Ten throws at thirty feet from a knee, adding the upper body and the glove-side pull.
  3. Ten throws at forty-five feet standing, with a shuffle before each throw.
  4. Ten throws at sixty feet with a full crow hop.
  5. Come back in ten feet at a time, finishing with ten easy throws at short distance.
