Front Toss Gap Hitting
Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill
Players hit front toss while focusing on line drives into the gaps and maintaining a controlled swing.
Hitting⏱ 12 min👥 2-12 players
Setup
Coach sets an L-screen or protective screen about fifteen to twenty feet in front of the hitter, with a bucket of balls at their side. Use cones in the outfield or on the net to mark the two gaps as targets. Hitters rotate through in a line behind the cage.
Execution
- Coach tosses firm, on-plane strikes from behind the screen.
- Hitter takes a controlled swing looking to drive the ball into a gap.
- Coach calls a target gap before every third pitch and the hitter tries to hit it.
- Hitter takes eight to ten swings, then the next hitter rotates in.
- Run three rounds; on the last round every swing has a called target.
