Forehand & Backhand Series

Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill

Players field ground balls to both sides, emphasizing lateral movement, staying behind the ball, and creating a clean throwing lane.

Fielding⏱ 12 min👥 2-12 players

Setup

Set two cones about ten feet apart to mark the working range. Fielders line up behind the middle cone; the coach works from a short fungo distance with a bucket of balls. Have a receiver at first base or a net to absorb throws.

Execution

  1. Coach hits a ball to the fielder's glove side; fielder crosses over and fields on the forehand.
  2. Fielder plants the back foot, opens the hips to the target, and throws.
  3. Coach hits the next ball to the arm side; fielder crosses over and fields on the backhand.
  4. Fielder takes one step through after the backhand pick, then throws.
  5. Alternate sides for six reps, then rotate the next fielder in.
