Crow Hop Throwing
Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill
Outfielders practice gathering through the baseball and using a crow hop to generate momentum into their throw.
Throwing⏱ 10 min👥 2-16 players
Setup
Set players in the outfield grass in pairs, sixty to ninety feet apart depending on age. Coach or partner throws fly balls and ground balls to be fielded moving forward. Leave a full throwing lane between pairs.
Execution
- Partner rolls or throws a ball out in front so the fielder has to move toward it.
- Fielder times the approach so they catch the ball moving forward, on the throwing-hand side.
- Fielder takes the crow hop — a hop off the back foot that carries momentum toward the target.
- Fielder throws through the target on a low line, aiming for one long hop.
- Ten reps each, alternating fly balls and ground balls.
