Breathing Reset

Dugout Master ✓ Official Dugout Master drill

Players use controlled breathing and light movement to gradually reduce intensity and transition out of practice.

Cool-down⏱ 5 min👥 2-24 players

Setup

Gather the team sitting or lying in the outfield grass, spread out enough that nobody is touching. Turn off any music. Works best at the very end of practice, after stretching.

Execution

  1. Players lie on their backs or sit with eyes closed.
  2. Breathe in through the nose for four counts, hold for four, out through the mouth for six.
  3. Repeat for ten full breaths, with a coach counting out loud.
  4. On the last three breaths, players think of one thing that went well in practice.
  5. Sit up slowly and finish with one deep breath together as a team.
